Sears
American Dream Team volunteers, made up of Sears
employees and retirees, are keeping thousands of Chicago
public school students warm this winter through the 16th
Annual Sears Coats for Kids program.
More than 2,000 Chicago Public School students received
new winter coats during the Sears Coats for Kids coat
drive at Soldier Field Oct. 30. Two hundred
volunteers—Sears associates, retirees and Citi Group
employees—individually sized and gave each student a
new winter coat. Two thousand coats will be distributed
at suburban schools the week of Nov. 8 as a follow-up to
the coat distribution at Soldier Field.
Sears associates and retirees raised money for nearly
5,000 new winter coats during a series of fundraising
opportunities this fall.
Sears Coats for Kids is a volunteer effort inspired,
funded and staffed by Sears associates and retirees to
provide new winter coats to Chicago-area children in
disadvantaged situations. The annual event is part of
the Sears American Dream Campaign, the company’s $100
million commitment to strengthen families, homes and
communities.
Sears associate Beverly Blount created Sears Coats for
Kids in 1988 when she raised enough money to purchase
eight new coats for disadvantaged children. More than
64,000 Chicago-area children have been warmed by the
Sears Coats for Kids program since its inception 16
years ago.
